DIY Jil Sander Veiled Beanie

DIY Jil Sander Veiled Beanie

After seeing the likes of model Hanne-Gaby Odiele (major style crush) , Bryanboy and Anna Dello Russo wearing their Jil Sander veiled beanies I knew I had to try and make one myself!

The real version costs £274 which isn’t exactly ideal for a student budget, mine cost me £9 to make which is much more reasonable.

1. To start you need:

A fine knit beanie (I got mine for £2- £3 with delivery- from EBay and chose a navy hat, here)
9’ x 24’ Birdcage/Russian netting (get it here)
Needle and thread
Scissors

2. Lay out the netting flat and place the hat in the centre offset by about 3 inches

3. Fold each side of the netting into the centre of the beanie

4-5. Pin and then stitch the two edges together and to the beanie. Be careful not to stich through both sides of the beanie !

6-7. take the top of the netting and fold the netting down to where you have just made your stitch

8-9. Then stitch the netting in place

10—12. Repeat the last step folding down the netting again and stiching it to the beanie

13. Now the netting is stitched in place you can fold up the cuff of the beanie hiding your stitching and the folded netting

Then put your beanie on pull the netting as low or high as you like over your face and your Jil Sander Beanie DIY is complete !
